All in this together

“Inner compassion and outer tolerance can easily make a new world a better world” Smi Chimnoy

I try and keep my blog as political free as possible. As a matter of fact, I try and keep most of my social media political free as well. I’m not always perfect and sometimes I admit I do slip in something that more times than not I end up deleting. People who know me, know what side of the fence I am on.

This blog is not about politics. This blog is about kindness and respect. We are asked to do three things; wash our hands, wear a mask and social-distance six feet apart. We are not asking to take away a person’s federal rights. It upsets me so much to see so much hatred going on during this pandemic. What happened to being able to agree to disagree without hating each other?

Today there was a post on social media about all the crowds gathering around over memorial day weekend. I totally disagree with it. I have been socially dipping my toe in the pool meeting with friends at a distance and outside. That is my personal choice. I have an immunocompromised system and tend to be more cautious than other people. The mean and hateful comments on this post broke my heart. “Get over it – The Law of the land allows us our freedoms, no Federal Government can take that away,” “Let me guess, your a trump supporter,” “Idiot Americans ignoring Liberals,” “Stay home you idiot democrats like good little sheep and rest of us will go back to our lives.” There were hundreds of these comments.

This is not a republican or a democratic pandemic. This is not even just an American pandemic as it is happening all over the world. This is a health crisis. When did it become ok to tell someone to go fu**k themselves because they asked to put a mask on before entering a store?

Like I said we are not asking for your first born, we are not asking to take your rights away. We are asking three simple things; wash your hands, wear a mask and stay six feet apart. It is not you I am worried about, it is me, it is my mom and it might be your mom.

If some people want to relax their shelter in place guidelines then so be it. I personally am still very cautious. That does not make me a stupid liberal and you are not an idiot trump supporter because you are not. Personal choice crosses the political line. We all need to be considerate and conscious of the people around us. It is not about me or you, it is about us.

In the last five years, I have survived two heart surgeries, two brain surgeries and cancer (I also survived raising two daughters, but that’s another story!). With all that life has thrown at me, it is easy to want to turn my back on God and live a life in negativity. However, I choose to live my life in gratitude. It is cliché, but every day truly is a gift and I am thankful for it because I know how quickly it can change! I intend to use this platform to inspire others to live humbly and gratefully through weekly posts. I hope you will join me on my journey of finding Accidental Harmony in every song I sing.
